It was once believed that a talking beech stood in front of Hassop Hall, a property connected with the old Peak family of Eyre. For a long time there were legal disputes over the ownership of the Hassop estate and the legend grew that the beech tree was some sort of guardian. When the wind blew strongly from the west, listeners were supposed to hear a message in its rustling branches.
Edden tree, or Eden Tree, near Bradwell is the site of a long lost tree. Its name comes from the story that a Saxon king, Edwin, was hanged from this tree by his enemies. He had been captured after losing a battle fought on Win and Lose Hills.
